Products from Chimay Trappist brewery

Chimay Trappist Brewery is one of the 8 breweries who can carry the official designation "Trappist Beer".

Chimay beers are authentic trappist beers that has been brewed since 1850. In 1997, the International Trappist Association (ITA) was created to prevent non-Trappist commercial companies from abusing the Trappist name. To be allowed to carry the "Trappist beer logo":
- The beer must be brewed within the walls of a Trappist monastery, either by the monks themselves or under their supervision.
- The brewery must be of secondary importance within the monastery and it should witness to the business practices proper to a monastic way of life
- The brewery is not intended to be a profit-making venture. The income covers the living expenses of the monks and the maintenance of the buildings and grounds. Whatever remains is donated to charity for social work and to help persons in need.

Today, only 8 breweries can officially wear the "Authentic Trappist Product" logo and truly carry the designation "Trappist Beer", 6 of which are in Belgium:
- Chimay, Belgium
- Orval, Belgium
- Rochefort, Belgium
- Westmalle, Belgium
- Westvleteren, Belgium
- Achel, Belgium
- La Trappe, Netherlands
- Stift Engelszell, Austria (Gregorius beer).
